Shopping for Dial-Up

I wouldn't recommend dial-up as your main connection unless there are no other options available because of your budget or location. Even the high-speed dial is incredibly slow in comparison to a DSL connection, combined with the fact you have to connect every time you want to use it and can't use the phone line at the same time. Although, dial-up makes a great backup connection if your broadband connection ever goes out. With that being said for some dial-up is still the best option.

There are 3 main types of dial-up, free dial-up, regular dial-up, high-speed dial-up.

Free dial-up, why spend money on what you can get for free? Well, it's free in the sense you don't actually pay a monthly fee for it, but instead all types of advertisements are constantly jammed in your face, the connection usually the slowest possible dial-up and there’s usually poor reliability. If you’re on very tight budget and don’t plan on using the Internet too often, free dial-up is perfect for you. It’s also a great backup connection if you’re a current broadband subscriber and your connection goes down.

Regular dial-up, this service is being slowly replaced by high-speed dial-up. It’s still a great alternative if broadband is unavailable in your area and usually costs around $10 USD a month. It also makes a great backup connection for current broadband users willing to pay a little extra to avoid those annoying advertisements.

High-speed dial-up, the term “high-speed” is very misleading as this connection isn’t close to a DSL or Cable connection. It works through having your ISP compress data before it’s sent to you creating a faster download speed. Usually priced around $15 a month it’s perfectly suited to those who aren’t willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a satellite connection.

With thousands of dial-up providers out there it’s really important to shop around and search for the best service for your needs.  It’s also important to check where the ISPs nearest connection point to you is located, the closer the connection point the faster your speed is likely to be.

the only bad part is that we live in an area where you are not able to get good internet or any high speed internet because know one comes out this far and it really sucks.
